For an entry-level smartphone, the Ascend Y300II appears to be a rather typical one with its 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 4GB memory, and 512MB RAM. Its 5-megapixel rear camera is also quite common, but it edges out many of the competition with its 3-megapixel front-facing camera. However, what separates it most from other basic smartphones is the Firefox (v2.1) OS, which trades off the convenience that normally comes with Android-based apps and services for a more basic interface. Firefox is also a relatively limited platform compared to Android, as it strictly supports HTML5 and Javascript. A developer might like the Ascend Y300II, but, at the end of the day, Androids might still be the way to go for entry-level shoppers.
