Kodak Ektra Review of Pros And Cons

A callback to Kodak's glory days in the world of photography, the Kodak Ektra's photography-first assortment of pros and cons revolves around a 21-megapixel rear-mounted UHD-video-capable f/2.0 camera with PDAF and OIS as well as an intuitive haptic-touch SLR-style dial emulating standard DSLR camera controls. Additionally, it features a 13-megapixel f/2.2 also accompanied by phase-detection focusing , which was a pretty rare sight as of its October 2016 unveiling, and a classic horizontal two-step shutter release .

Regrettably, its premium-class imaging specs are not coupled with a premium screen, since a 5-inch Full-HD-only display is among its cons -- several other high-class camera smartphones boast Quad HD displays. The same story goes for its 32GB internal memory , given that a few of its rivals have at least 64GB of on-board storage.

Those setbacks aside, the Ektra's top-end cameras are powered by a tri-cluster Helio X20 processor, composed of a dual-core cluster running at 2.3GHz and two deputy quad-core clusters (1.85GHz + 1.4GHz) . This flagship-tier processing chip is assisted by 3GB of RAM and a 3000mAh battery with fast-charging via USB Type-C . It also dons a leather-like backing as a luxury touch on the design front.

So, while the Ektra may not be as promising compared to some of its rivals display- and storage-wise, tech-savvy digital photographers are bound to get a kick out of this fusion of smartphone and digital camera.
