Although the Samsung Galaxy J7 Perx offers some... well, perks, our keen eye spotted some rather disgruntling cons as well, giving it an overall middle-tier mix of technical specs.

One of its biggest perks is battery life, since, despite its 3300mAh capacity missing the flagship 4000mAh threshold , it boasts a staggering 156-hour (over 9000 minutes) continuous music playback time -- according to Samsung's controlled tests, that is. Moreover, it promises up to 40 hours of talk time on 2G networks , with Samsung's signature Ultra Power Saving Mode -- for aiming to optimizing power consumption -- also tagging along.

Sadly, this J7 variant is a dumbed-down model when it comes to imaging, sporting only an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a modest 5-megapixel selfie cam (Both are CMOS sensors). In comparison, the J7 2017's bundle of pros and cons include two 13-megapixel cameras: one at the back and one up front. To make things worse, the J7 Perx scraps its mother model's Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen resolution for a meager HD-720p sharpness , something that no techie ever wants to see on a 5.5-inch interface. It even abandons Samsung's Super AMOLED architecture for the low-end TFT technology, probably to drag it to an even lower price point.

As for its pros and cons on the performance front, the Perx's 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor is nice to see on a middle-class Android phone like itself. We were expecting more than 2GB of accompanying RAM , though, since a lot of comparable models boast at least 3GB in that area. That being said, opting for only 2GB may not be that bad, since it has relatively mild cameras and a middling screen anyway.

For storage, while we are not crazy about its 16GB-only internal memory (32GB was the go-to capacity for many mid-enders when it came out), the J7 Perx more than makes up for this con through a reassuring 256GB maximum microSD card support , which not many of its contemporaries offer. It also comes with the Samsung Knox security toolkit .

Only available in a black finish , the Galaxy J7 Perx may not be for the digital photographer nor the hardcore mobile gamer, but it certainly packs some treats for those who are cautious about phone stamina and multimedia storage.
