HTC Windows Phone 8X Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the HTC Windows Phone 8X, by HTC

The 8X is the flagship of HTC's Windows phones. It squeezed-in advanced cameras (front and back), a 4.3-inch HD Super LCD display, and a dual-core Qualcomm processor in a seamless 10.22mm thick uni-body design. The main features do seem impressive, but we noticed the lack of an external memory card slot and the 1GB RAM (2GB RAM would have been better).

On-paper Review score:

First, the Cons:

Is there an HDMI port?:

The Windows Phone 8X can record high-resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) video clips. Bravo! But we couldn't confirm whether it had an HDMI port or not. HDMI, which lets you connect to an HDTV, is not essential, but would be great on an HD phone.

Younger operating system:

The operating system (OS), Windows Phone 8, is not yet as popular as Android or the iPhone's OS (iOS). Therefore, keep in mind that there will be less apps available for this phone.

No trace of a memory expansion slot:

Does it allow memory expansion? HTC's specifications do not seem to mention any.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we were not able to find information about its weight.

Now, the Pros:

Large display:

The display is pretty big, with its 4.3-inch diagonal size and its 1280 x 720 resolution (in pixels).

We're impressed by the display's sharpness:

While many phone displays offer a regular image sharpness (generally roughly 225 DPI and quite often less), this phone's display stands out with a 341.33 DPI image resolution.

Lots of onboard memory:

The Windows Phone 8X includes a large internal memory (16000MB), but it may sometimes be more interesting to buy a phone with an included memory card instead, since the memory card can then be reused in a future cell phone.

8-megapixel camera:

Superior photo resolution - 8-megapixel - with these features: 28mm lens, Dedicated HTC ImageChip, Auto focus, LED flash, BSI sensor (for better low-light captures).

Average front cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
