We obviously cannot talk about the vivo V5 without talking about its premium selfie camera, which is a whopping 20-megapixel 5P-lens front-facing cam decked out with a Selfie Softlight feature and Face Beauty 6.0 . In fact, its 20-megapixel resolution was the highest that we have seen for a selfie camera as of December 2016, but don't take our word for it, the following comparison against other high-ranking 2016 selfie smartphones below should paint a crystal-clear picture -- sorry, can't help the pun.

As for the rest of its pros and cons, the V5 sadly settles for a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) IPS display , which seems like a huge drawback, especially for a phone that operates on a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750 64-bit octa-core processor and 4GB's worth of RAM . In contrast, many of its high-end rivals offer FHD-1080p displays, while some, like the LG V20 and the Samsung Galaxy S7, reach for a premium QHD-1440p definition.

The V5's 13-megapixel f/2.2 rear-facing camera is a con as well, since it is not only overshadowed by the selfie cam, but also lacks a 4K (2160p) video-recording capability , capturing only FHD-1080p videos at best. Its 3000mAh battery capacity is not very impressive either, knowing that several of its high-end phablet competitors pack up to 4000mAh of power.

The remainder of the V5's specs include a fingerprint sensor , largely for unlocking the phone/apps, an AK4376 Hi-Fi (high fidelity) audio chip , and Vivo's Smart Split 2.0 multitasking feature . Additionally, it delivers a passable 32GB inbuilt memory expandable by a maximum of 128GB alongside the Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform skinned with the Funtouch OS v2.6.

With a 2.5D-curved Gorilla Glass display finish and a metallic back cover , which is offered in Crown Gold and Rose Gold, encasing its mix of pros and cons, the vivo V5 obviously calls out to high-end smartphone shoppers who just can't resist snapping those selfies.
