Huawei Ascend Y Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Huawei Ascend Y, by Huawei

Even though the Huawei Ascend Y includes the basic features one would expect from a smartphone, some specs are not exactly impressive (3G data, a 3.2-megapixel camera, etc.). That being said, the 2GB microSD card that comes with the package is a nice bonus!

On-paper Review score:

Cons (or Not-so-great Features):

Smaller battery:

Yes, the Huawei Ascend Y's 1400mAh of battery juice will get you through a day, but given this phone's 3.5-inch screen, we would have expected a battery with more capacity.

Smaller touch screen:

You better have tiny fingers, since the Ascend Y's touch screen has a smaller display surface to press on than many other smartphones. According to our calculations, it has a 5.65 square inch-display while

Unknown SAR rating:

Despite our efforts to find SAR (radiation) information for this phone, we never found it, which is sad. How can we know how much radiation this phone emits?

Just a TFT?:

TFT displays are ok (they used to be the best option), but in such a high-end phone, we prefer AMOLED, or even SuperAMOLED displays, known for their brightness in sunlight, richer contrast and lower energy consumption.

Unknown weight:

It's disappointing that we could not find its weight information.

Now, the Pros:

Swype:

The Huawei Ascend Y features the Swype text entry system. Swype lets you enter text simply by gliding the keyboard with your finger over the right letters.

Includes a 2GB MicroSD memory card:

It comes with a memory card: 2GB MicroSD.
