The Alcatel 3 2019 is a fresher-looking follow-up to the 2018 Alcatel 3 that still stays within middle-class bounds when it comes to technical pros and cons. Its biggest downsides come from the hardware department, in the form of a 1.8GHz octa-core processor that won't be plugging it into Phonerated's list of the best eight-core phones any time soon -- we expected at least a 2GHz peak speed from a 2019 mid-end contender. It also offers a rather modest 3GB RAM and only 32GB of native memory , the latter at least extendable by up to 128GB.
Its pros, on the other hand, are led by a dual camera that enables hardware-level bokeh effects for portrait shots and post-shot refocusing. It consists of a 13-megapixel main lens interpolated (enhanced using software) to 16 megapixels and a 5-megapixel depth-of-field lens. Its dual-lens system also makes the 3 2019 a relatively cheap ticket into AI-aided imaging and custom AR applications.
Up front, this budget-tier Alcatel model touts a spacious 5.9-inch 19.5:9 IPS Super Full View display that brings to mind some of the best large-screen smartphones of its time, although its 1560 x 720 definition pins it to a budget-tier shelf spot. Right above its screen is a so-so 8-megapixel fixed-focus selfie cam that's interpolated to 13 megapixels, with micro-video and face beautification among its key features.
On power duties is a 3500mAh battery that charges up sluggishly, at 252 minutes , compared to some other cells with roughly-similar capacities. That con is brushed aside by its promising stress test scores, though, which include a 50-hour 2G talk time that was over 250 percent higher than the average mark as of this specs-based review and a 900-hour maximum standby time . Also on board is the combination of a fingerprint scanner and Face Key. Its pros and cons are sandwiched between a 2.5D Dragontrail display cover glass and a gradient finish of either Black-Blue or Blue-Purple.
All said, Alcatel's 3 2019 is a solid option for those eying a high-stamina mid-ranger with some flair on the design aspect.
On-paper Star rating:
The Alcatel 3 2019 can record high-resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) movies. Bravo! But we couldn't determine whether it had an HDMI port or not. Granted, HDMI (which lets you connect to your HDTV), is not an absolute necessity, but it seems like a desirable feature on an HD phone.

We're dealing with a hefty display here, making it a phablet: 5.9 inches and a resolution of 1560 x 720 pixels means about 13.24 square inches and an image quality of at least 291.04 dots per inch (DPI)!
The 3 2019 doesn't come with an included memory card but it has a slot for up to 128GB in memory expansion, which is convenient to store pictures and video clips shot with the included 13-megapixel (main cam interpolated to 16 megapixels combined with a 5-megapixel sub-cam) camera.
It includes a high-megapixel camera (13-megapixel (main cam interpolated to 16 megapixels combined with a 5-megapixel sub-cam)) with the following options: Burst, Google Lens, Re-focus, Real-time bokeh.
The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
