Blackview BV9600 Pro Review & Pros And Cons

Picture of the Blackview BV9600 Pro, by Blackview

- Analysis by KJ David

A heavily-armored rugged smartphone, the Blackview BV9600 Pro banks on its IP68/69K and MIL-STD-810G rugged certifications . The former makes its outer shell impermeable by liquids and dust grains, while the latter rigs it with resistance against extreme heat and constant vibrations.

Some of its cons include its moderately-tuned Helio P60 eight-core 2GHz processor , if only because some of the best octa-core models models available as of this specs-driven review ran on chips that clock in at more or less 2.5GHz. That said, its 6GB LPDDR4X accompanying RAM is hearty. Its 8-megapixel-only front cam sounds off-putting as well, seeing that the BV9500 Pro, its direct predecessor, offers a 13-megapixel selfie cam.

Although its 5580mAh raw battery power may sound like a huge downgrade over the BV9500 Pro's whopping 10000mAh cell, we still flagged it as a con, since several competing high-stamina phones do not even reach the 5500mAh threshold. Also, even though it still sounds rather bulky, at 268 grams , the BV9600 Pro's matte polishing , combined with its aluminum alloy frame, makes its sound sleeker than most older Blackview models.

This 2018 Blackview phone sounds worthy of comparisons to many non-rugged imaging-first contenders of its time, touting a 16- plus 8-megapixel dual camera that's aided by an AI bokeh algorithm on its back plate. Also among its imaging pros and cons is underwater photography, which is obviously made possible by its aforementioned waterproof housing.

Like a few other semi-high-end rugged contenders listed here on Phonerated, the BV9600 Pro touts a 6.2-inch 2248 x 1080 FHD+ AMOLED display, which is pitched by the brand as a more power-efficient alternative over IPS screen solutions. This phone is loaded with 128GB of on-board storage, which can be expanded by up to 256GB.

With dual SIM card trays, NFC, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner rounding out its pros and cons, the BV9600 Pro makes for a solid choice for field workers and adventure-seekers.
