- Analysis by KJ David

Aimed at outdoor enthusiasts and industrial workers, the Cubot King Kong 3 is a waterproof rugged smartphone that combines a toughened physique with some high-caliber specs. Before we get into its pros, though, you might want to take note of its biggest con, particularly, the modest 1440 x 720 HD+ resolution of its 5.5-inch display -- a good number of competing models powered by tantamount hardware components boast 1080p or even 2K-1440p screen resolutions.

Sitting inside the King Kong 3's engine room is Helio P23 eight-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz , which lines it up with some of the best octa-core smartphones on the market found here on Phonerated. Sadly, though, its 4GB accompanying RAM and 64GB native memory are not as high-end as we had hoped, considering that some comparable smartphones that came out as we were reviewing its pros and cons pack at least 6GB of RAM and start out with 128GB of on-board memory.

Supporting the forenamed hardware pieces is a 6000mAh battery , which is a huge leap from the original King Kong model's already-hearty 4400mAh cell -- discover other big-battery models here. Its battery pack is accompanied by a 9V/2A charging system promising to replenish up to 65 percent of its total battery capacity under 60 minutes and it scores a reassuring 46-hour talk time .

This rugged Cubot phone passes the IP68 rugged certification for dust- and waterproofing and its exterior is made of military-grade high-strength polyester , making it drop-ready as well as resistant to temperature extremes.

As for imaging, the King Kong 3 sounds ambitious, at least compared to its predecessor, rocking a 16- plus 2-megapixel dual main camera aided by a 1A LED flash and a 13-megapixel 4P-lens selfie camera -- the 2018 King Kong offers a single 13-megapixel rear cam and a modest 8-megapixel front cam.

So, with those pros and cons in mind, Cubot's King Kong 3 makes for a solid choice for outdoorsy users in search of a high-specked rugged smartphone.
