Described as a luxury smartphone, this collaboration between Huawei and Porsche Design touts a premium-class 6.4-inch OLED display with a 3120 x 1440 2K sharpness and a 538ppi pixel density count , easily rubbing elbows with some of the best phablets and large-screen smartphones around the time of this data-driven review. Additionally, this edition of the Mate 20 is inlaid with a leather backing -- obviously Porsche Design's way of adding an extra layer of sophistication.

While its overall mix of pros and cons make it a solid 2018 flagship contender, though, this model is not without some setbacks. For instance, it does away with a 3.5mm headset jack , which was still the standard solution as we were checking out its specs. Instead, users are required to use a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter to use headphones. Additionally, it does not go beyond 4200mAh of raw battery power , whereas a few of its competitors in the premium category pack at least 4500mAh in the tank. The Mate 20 X, which is a large, but lower-specked Mate 20 spinoff, even lugs a 5000mAh cell.

Those cons aside, the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design's pros include a highly-competitive triple-lens primary camera similar to those rocked by the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20 X. It is composed of a 40-megapixel main RGB lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens that deals with focus levels, and a 20-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens for capturing wide landscape shots. Furthermore, this Huawei flagship challenges some of the most-popular selfie-first phones with its 24-megapixel front-facing camera , although its upmarket pixel resolution is a bit tainted by the absence of a front-firing LED flash , which we flagged as a slight con, knowing that a good number of less-ambitious smartphones come with flash-rigged selfie shooters.

Jumping into its pros and cons on the performance front, this Porsche Design model boasts triple-cluster engine , in the form of Huawei's own Kirin 980 7nm chip. Operating on a total of eight cores (Explore the leading octa-core smartphones here), its Kirin engine is made up of a two-core performance cluster peaking at 2.6GHz, a dual-core middle cluster clocked at 1.92GHz, and a quad-core 1.8GHz cluster tailored to everyday use and undemanding applications. Its biggest difference from all other Mate 20 variants, however, is the fact that it comes with a mammoth 8GB RAM , whereas the Pro and the X versions settle for 6GB RAM counts only. Be sure to check out this Phonerated list of ultra-high-end 8GB-RAM phones.

Also part of the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design's feature set is a 256GB memory (The international version is loaded with 512GB of storage), a pressure-sensitive in-screen fingerprint reader , and the brand's proprietary 3D Face Unlock technology, all of which top it off as a reasonable purchase for tech-savvy users who are all about the upscale lifestyle.
