The Y7 2018, like a few other 2018 editions from Huawei, is a middle-class smartphone that heavily banks on a wide display. However, before we jump to its screen, which, by the way, resembles those of some full-fledged flagship phablets, let's get a few underwhelming cons out of the way.

First off, it's not as ambitious as other 2018 Y7 variants, namely, the Y7 Prime and the Y7 Pro, when it comes to hardware specs, opting for a middling 2GB RAM count and no more than 16GB of inbuilt memory -- both of the aforementioned beefed-up models come with 3GB RAMs and 32GB memories. Moreover, its modest 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdraong 430 (MSM8937) processor shies of the chips used by a lot of distinguished octa-core smartphones on the market, particularly those whose engines clock in at roughly 2.5GHz.

As for its pros, although its mere HD+ (1440 x 720) resolution is a big letdown, given its screen size, its 6-inch IPS 18:9 display still comes off as a solid selling point, knowing that many of the Y7 2018's mid-range rivals (the ones that came out around the time of this Phonerated data-driven review, at least) opt for the old-fashioned 16:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, relative to its hardware makeup and not-so-demanding screen definition, its 3000mAh raw battery capacity sounds reassuring.

Jumping over to its imaging pros and cons, the Huawei Y7 2018 won't impress anyone with its 13-megapixel primary camera , especially since dual-lens cameras were all the rage when it debuted. Additionally, its 8-megapixel front-facing camera resolution is so-so at best , but at least it comes with a selfie-toning flash for enhancing the lighting conditions when snapping selfies in dark environments. Also joining in is Huawei's AR Lens feature , allowing users to get creative with portrait backgrounds and playful stickers.

Its feature set also includes both a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a facial recognition system carried by its selfie camera, while a slim (compared to many others in this category) 7.8mm shell with a mirror body design adds a dab of sophistication in terms of physique. By the way, we've prepared a list of the thinnest phones out there today.

With the Android 8.0 overlaid with Huawei's EMUI 8.0 topping off its pros and cons, the Y7 2018 obviously caters to shoppers who want a large-screen octa-core smartphone that won't break the bank.
