LG Tribute HD Review of Pros And Cons

Picture of the LG Tribute HD, by LG

- Analysis by KJ David

Even though it relies on a basic 1.3GHz quad-core processor and comes with only 2100mAh of power , both of which are familiar low-end cons, the LG Tribute HD's pros certainly put it above all older Tribute models.

As made obvious by its name, it upgrades the Tribute 5's (its direct predecessor) mere FWVGA-480p interface to a 5-inch HD-720p screen . It also comes with 16GB of internal storage and a 5-megapixel gesture-supporting selfie camera , which not many budget-class models offered when it came out. Additionally, the 900-minute talk time promised by its meager battery pack as well as the 1.5GB RAM (most others in this class stick to only 1GB in comparison) do not sound too shabby. Joining its pros and cons are a so-so 8-megapixel HD-video main camera and full-blown 4G LTE connectivity .

In review, even though the Tribute HD pays tribute to its low-caliber lineage, its specs include some mid-range treats that its entry-level target buyers will likely appreciate.

On-paper Review rating:

Very large display:

The screen is larger than usual, making it a phablet: 5 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels means about 10.68 square inches and an image quality of at least 293.58 dots per inch (DPI)!

The LG Tribute HD comes with a 8-megapixel camera.

High-resolution (8-megapixel) camera:

It includes an advanced built-in camera (8-megapixel) with the following options: Burst Shot, Film Effect, Geo-tagging, Live Shot, Multiple shutter options (tap shutter, tap screen, voice, volume key), Quick Share, Shot Modes (Auto, Panorama), Swipe finger to switch between cameras, Video Screenshot, Video Trim.

Decent-resolution selfie cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.

Quad microprocessor:

Not only does it have a 1.3GHz processor clock speed, but it also has 4 cores.

Slower smartphone:

Not too long ago, this smartphone's processing specs would have appeared nice, but compared to recent smartphones, a 1.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8909 processor with only 1.5GB of RAM looks a little pale, compared to recent smartphones with their multi-core gigahertz processor and large RAM.

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

Obviously no HDMI port:

It is nice that the LG Tribute HD can record high-resolution 1280 x 720 movies, but we were disappointed not to find any evidence of the Tribute HD featuring an HDMI port (which is convenient to watch HD videos on your shiny HDTV.)
