Initially pitched to tech-savvy Chinese buyers, the Nokia X6 is a wide-screen smartphone whose assortment of pros and cons reminds us of those of some of the highest-tier phablets around. That said, we caught a couple of weak points in its specs list nevertheless.

For starters, its processor, which is a Snapdragon 636 chip eight-core chip running at 1.8GHz , is not as powerful as we had hoped, relative to its high-caliber cameras, which we'll discuss further down this technical review. In comparison, the best octa-core smartphones to date, some of which have tantamount screen real estates, use processors that clock in 2.5GHz or higher. Its battery capacity, which peaks at only 3060mAh , also sounds lackluster, at least when pitted against the 4000mAh full-tank capacities of several high-end rivals. Fortunately for the X6, the forenamed cons sit alongside a robust 6GB RAM (Nokia also ships a 4GB-only version) -- a RAM count that only a handful of other flagship wannabes offered as of its May 2018 release.

Up front, the X6 features a wide 5.8-inch display, which, although does not go for a premium-class 1440p definition (It has a 2280 x 1080 FHD+ sharpness), possibly attracts gamers and multimedia junkies with its wide 19:9 aspect ratio and third-generation Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protective finish.

Its biggest pros, however, come in the form of its cameras, which point it toward the direction of our list of the best phones for photography. Sitting on its rear is a dual-lens system consisting of a 16-megapixel f/2.0-aperture main lens for standard photography and a 5-megapixel black-and-white lens for picking out fine details as well as depth-of-field analysis . These lenses are accompanied by AI imaging algorithms (AI Beauty Blur, Smart AI, etc.) and a dual-color temperature LED flash.

Right above its display is a 16-megapixel front-facing camera whose relatively-high pixel resolution could make it a good fit for users who cannot stop snapping those selfies. Its front cam also carries the phone's AI-aided facial recognition system , which partners up with its rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in the security department.

Joining its pros and cons is either 64GB or 32GB of inbuilt eMMC 5.1 storage that can be expanded by a maximum of 256GB . It is fitted with an aluminum frame and a glass backing to match its scratch-resistant screen finish.

So, although the Nokia X6 could have done better than a 1.8GHz clock rate and a 3060mAh power cap, it nevertheless makes for a reasonable purchase for users who are meticulous when it comes to mobile imaging.
