OnePlus 5 Pros & Cons Review

One of the most-emphasized features (if not the most emphasized) of the OnePlus 5 is the quality of its cameras. Sporting a duo consisting of a 20-megapixel telephoto lens and a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens on its rear , it's easily the most promising snapper out of the flagship bunch, at least on paper. To add, its selfie camera is a definite attention-seeker at 16 megapixels .

Its ability to go head-to-head with the most popular premium-level smartphones is however somewhat hampered by its display-related specs. Sticking to a 1080p resolution , which is more of a mid-range value, has given the 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED screen a resulting sharpness of only 401DP . Again, this con is arguably just a form of paper loss -- since this density is level with the iPhone 7 Plus, in spite of trailing behind the competing Android-run models.

Get past this last point, and this pros and cons list goes back to a highly-promising track. The whopping 8GB of RAM in the 128GB version is, of course, an astounding spec for a mid-2017 device. To add, the octa-core Snapdragon 835 runs at a maximum speed of 2.45GHz -- yet another highly-attractive spec.

The battery is quite good at 3300mAh , as well. Of course, bigger batteries exist in power-centrist devices. But in the scope of flagship phones, such an amount of power is already relatively-promising. To add, the OnePlus 5 is lighter and thinner than many high-end models at 153 grams and 7.25mm , respectively. Although the difference between its dimensions and those of the next handiest device isn't too big, it's still a pretty interesting thing to note.

At this point, it's clear that the OnePlus 5 has clearly tried its best to put its best foot forward. In the pros and cons that we have mentioned above, it's a clear winner in many facets. Of course, winning in specs and values alone doesn't necessarily translate to being the best phone. However, it goes without saying that the OnePlus 5 has caught our attention, and from what we have reviewed we deem it worthy of a shot. If, on the other hand, you aren't that convinced, we suggest that you check out our list of 2024 Best Phones By Category.
