Samsung Galaxy A6s Review of Pros And Cons

A solid example of a semi-high-end Android phone (at least by industry standards as of this specs-driven Phonerated review), Samsung's Galaxy A6s comes with a 6-inch 18:9 display sitting on a 2160 x 1080 Full HD+ resolution , which we flagged a con, if only a slight one, knowing that several full-fledged flagship phablets boast premium QHD/QHD+ (1440p) displays.

Another slight setback is its 3300mAh-only raw battery capacity , since, in comparison, some of its 6-inch contemporaries lug 4000mAh cells under the hood. Its 311-hour promised standby time is far from reassuring as well, given the fact that the average standby time hovered somewhere around 340 hours when it hit the market.

On the flip side, the Samsung Galaxy A6s just about hits the 2018 yardstick for high-end smartphones with its dual-cluster octa-core processor, whose clusters clock in at 2.2GHz (performance cluster) and 1.8GHz (efficiency cluster) accordingly. Its 6GB RAM count is highly-appreciable as well, knowing that a lot of similarly-sized phones with tantamount pros and cons settle for only 3GB or 4GB on that front.

This Galaxy A edition satisfies us when it comes to storage memory as well, hitting the market with 128GB or 64GB of on-board storage as well as support for up to 256GB external memory cards -- some of its closest competitors allow only 128GB microSD cards.

Heading over to its imaging pros and cons, the Galaxy A6s just about levels with some popular imaging-first smartphones of its time by rocking a 12- plus 5-megapixel dual-lens rear camera rigged with a 4K (3840 x 2160) maximum video-recording capability. For selfies, it touts a 12-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera, which is neither disappointing nor head-turning, at least by 2018 selfie cam standards.

The A6s is offered in gradient color finishes like Flower Purple and Flower Blue, which was a surefire pro at the time of writing, at least coming from an Android of this caliber.

So, when it's all said and done, Samsung's Galaxy A6s makes for a feasible choice for heavy multitaskers who prefer large displays or those looking for a taste of dual-lens imaging, but do not fancy an over-the-top smartphone.

On-paper Review rating:

Cons:

Obviously no HDMI port:

It's great that the Samsung Galaxy A6s can record high-resolution 3840 x 2160 movies, but we were disappointed not to find any evidence of the Galaxy A6s featuring an HDMI port (which is convenient to watch HD videos on your shiny HDTV.)

Unknown weight:

It's frustrating that we could not find its weight information.

Pros:

Faster processor:

Its Quad 2.2GHz (+ Quad 1.8GHz) processor speed combined with 8 cores is part of the fastest.

Very large screen:

We're dealing with a hefty display here, making it a phablet: 6 inches and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels means about 14.39 square inches and an image quality of at least 402.23 dots per inch (DPI)!

The memory can be expanded up to 256GB:

The Samsung Galaxy A6s is not sold with a memory card but it can accept up to 256GB of memory expansion, which is convenient to store photos taken with the built-in 12-megapixel (combined with a 5-megapixel sub-cam) camera.

High-resolution (12-megapixel (combined with a 5-megapixel sub-cam)) camera:

It includes a high-resolution built-in camera (12-megapixel (combined with a 5-megapixel sub-cam))

Above-average selfie cam:

The 12-megapixel selfie cam offers an above-decent resolution.
