One of Samsung's strongest entries into the high-caliber photography smartphones category as of October 2018, the Samsung Galaxy A7 2018 boasts a rare (as of this Phonerated review of its pros and cons) triple rear camera setup . It touts a high-resolution 24-megapixel primary lens for standard photography, which is aided by a wide-angle (120 degrees) 8-megapixel camera for scenic shots and a 5-megapixel depth-sending lens for bokeh shots and post-shot refocusing.

Despite the aforementioned perk, however, this follow-up to the 2017 Galaxy A7 edition does not quite hit the flagship mark on certain aspects. For one, it plays it rather safe in terms of screen resolution, settling for a Full HD+ interface (2220 x 1080), instead of shooting for a full-blown 2K-1440p sharpness . Having said that, its 6-inch Super AMOLED display, which delivers the brand's signature Always On technology, is by no means disappointing -- it still brings to mind some of the best phablets around.

Another slight drawback is the fact that it sticks to a 3300mAh raw battery power , while some of its closest rivals pack at least 4000mAh in the tank. Its stress test scores, such as the 74-hour maximum music playback time when the AOD option is turned off, sound rather promising, though.

Joining its triple-lens rear cam on the list of pros is the A7 2018's premium-class 24-megapixel selfie camera with an adjustable LED flash . Considering its high pixel resolution and selfie-oriented features, however, we find its lack of a standard autofocus function rather disappointing, especially since some of the best smartphones for selfies infuse their front cameras with standard autofocus capabilities.

As for its hardware pros and cons, this A7 model runs on a dual-cluster (2.2GHz + 1.6GHz) Exynos 7885 octa-core engine that's coupled with a robust 6GB RAM , although Samsung also ships a version with only 4GB of RAM -- obviously for less-demanding users. It comes with either 128GB or 64GB of native memory and it supports up to 512GB's worth of external storage , giving it a slight edge storage-wise versus a few tantamount models within its price group -- those that settle for 256GB microSD allowances, that is.

All said, the A7 2018's specs makes it a solid choice for those looking for a high-end Android rigged with an ambitious rear camera and an equally-competitive selfie cam.
