Ulefone MIX 2 Review & Pros And Cons

While its name suggests that the Ulefone MIX 2 is a quick follow-up (It debuted within months of its predecessor's release) to the mid-range MIX, whose all-screen architecture, by the way, resembles those of some high-caliber wide-screen smartphones, its technical pros and cons indicate that it's more of a stripped-down version, this time catering to a more budget-cautious clientele.

Since it falls to a lower category, the MIX 2 runs on an elementary quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6737 processor coupled with no more than 2GB of RAM . It also comes with a so-so 16GB native storage capacity (A few tantamount models start out with 32GB of storage), but it does support up to 256GB's worth of external memory .

Additionally, the MIX 2 departs from the 5.5-inch MIX's triple-edge bezel-less concept (It left a bit of room at the bottom edge for its home key/fingerprint reader), although it extends the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 18:9 and boasts a 90.1 percent screen-to-body ratio, consequently donning a larger 5.7-inch facade. Keep in mind though, that it retains the original model's modest 720p definition , which puts it on the back foot versus several similarly-sized phablets featured here at Phonerated.

One surefire pro that the MIX 2 has is its dual rear camera , which it probably lifts straight out of the playbooks of some of the best photography-focused smartphones of its time, even though it lacks some other sophisticated bells and whistles, such as 4K video-recording and AI-aided imaging features. Its dual camera is composed of a 13-megapixel main cam for standard photography and a 5-megapixel sub-camera for depth-of-field effects.

Up front, it sports a typical 5-megapixel camera that mimics an actual 8-megapixel shooter through interpolation or software enhancements, with what Ulefone calls a Selfie Softlight accompanying it, obviously for enhancing the lighting conditions when snapping selfies in the dark.

Also part of its mix of pros and cons is a respectable 3300mAh battery that sounds rather reassuring, given its budget-tier specs -- a lot of other models with similar hardware cons that came out around the time of this review don't even reach the 3000mAh mark. It touts a standard fingerprint sensor right under its camera.

Offered in Blue and Black, the Ulefone MIX 2 is a lower-specked version of the MIX that cuts a few corners, but still serves shoppers who are eying a large-screen, dual-cam-rigged Android.
