Unihertz Atom Pros & Cons Review

Picture of the Unihertz Atom, by Unihertz

- Analysis by KJ David

Aptly named the Atom, this Unihertz model is one of the smallest 4G-enabled rugged smartphones on the market, rocking a facade measuring only 96 x 45mm -- roughly the size of a credit card. Due to its compact size, though, the Atom's cons include the absence of a memory card slot from its list of specs as well as an unimpressive 2000mAh battery power . Note that many larger, but similarly-specked models, safely pass the 2500mAh raw power threshold.

Those weak points being said, its pros and cons are not all bite-sized, with its hardware components being headlined by an eight-core processor clocked at 2GHz and a 4GB RAM , both of which resemble those of many conventionally-sized octa-core-powered smartphones listed here on Phonerated.

As mentioned earlier, the Atom has an IP68 rugged rating , making its tiny shell impervious to dust grains and liquids as well as resistant to extreme temperatures and accidental drops. Also, despite its aforementioned lack of support for top-up storage, its 64GB native storage cap sounds more than adequate, at least for a phone of its size. By the way, don't forget to check out this gallery of the smallest phones available.

Also among the Atom's pros is a 16-megapixel primary camera that possibly fares well versus what many full-sized Androids offer, while a respectable 8-megapixel front-facing camera sits atop its tiny display.

It offers a teeny 2.45-inch screen with a low-class resolution of 432 x 240 pixels , under which is a home button that doubles up as the phone's fingerprint scanner . Joining its pros and cons are a Gorilla Glass display finish, two nano SIm card slots, and NFC (Near Field Communication) support for mobile transactions. It runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box and it dons a Space Black exterior.

So, despite being one of the tiniest phones around as of this on-paper review, the Unihertz Atom lines up with many full-sized middle-class and upmarket models, making it a fitting choice for those with portability and and convenience in mind.
