Xiaomi Poco F1 Pros & Cons Review

Though not explicitly pitched as a gaming smartphone, Xiaomi's Poco F1, which, incidentally, resembles many of the best phablets around, makes for a solid option for gamers and power-hungry users. That being said, its 6.2-inch 18.7:9 display , which would have otherwise ended up as a pro in our book, does not shoot for a truly-premium 1440p sharpness , instead settling for a 2246 x 1080 FHD+ resolution. As a consequence, it scores a paltry (by flagship standards) 403ppi pixel density , whereas some of its gamer-friendly rivals boast VR-worthy definitions of more than 500ppi -- check out Phonerated's list of the best phones for VR here.

Another slightly off-putting con is the fact that the Pico F1's 12-megapixel peak camera resolution pales in comparison to the 16-megapixel (or higher) resolutions boasted by some of its contemporaries. Notwithstanding, though, it offers flagship-caliber imaging specs, such as a 4K-2160p video-recording mode as well as AI powered scene recognition and beautification features.

Where the Poco F1 really flexes some high-end muscles is on the hardware front, powering its pros and cons with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 eight-core 2.8GHz processor coupled with a premium-caliber 8GB LPDDR4X dual-channel RAM (Discover other high-octane 8GB-RAM phones here). Moreover, it boasts what Xiaomi calls LiquidCool , a liquid cooling technology akin to those of the best gaming smartphones available. Joining the mix is an Adreno 630 graphics engine clocked at 710MHz.

Leaving its hardware pros and cons, the Xiaomi Poco F1 also possibly brushes elbows with the best selfie smartphones on the market, rocking one of the most-advanced selfie shooters as of this technical review, in the form of a 20-megapixel AI-powered front-facing camera . Sadly, it passes up on a front-firing LED flash , which we think could have complemented its auspicious front cam nicely.

Also part of the Poco F1's offering are a respectable 4000mAh battery infused with the Quick Charge 3.0 technology , an expandable 256GB UFS 2.1 memory (128GB and 64GB versions are offered as well), and Face Unlock. By the way, apart from its Graphite Black, Steel Blue, and Rosso Red color options, this Xiaomi flagship is offered in an Armoured Edition that's coated with aviation-grade DuPont Kevlar aramid fiber .

Wrapping up, the Poco F1 might not have gone for a premium-class display, but its flagship-class hardware and high-end selfie cam could still save it a seat alongside the best multimedia phones of 2018.
