Tailored to users in search of an entry-level smartphone, the Xiaomi Redmi 6A's cons are led by a humdrum 5.45-inch 1440 x 720 HD+ display with a dismal pixel density score of only 295ppi , although its 18:9 aspect ratio reminds us of a few higher-specked large-screen smartphones -- as of this specs-based review, most low-end phones settle for the old-fashioned 16:9 solution.

This Redmi 6 offshoot also relies on basic performance pieces, including a quad-core Helio A22 processor running at 2GHz and an underwhelming 2GB-only accompanying RAM . Keep in mind that a few tantamount models run on eight-core processors and safely pass the 3GB RAM mark. Don't forget to check out some of the best eight-core models featured here on Phonerated.

Fortunately for the Redmi 6A, its pros and cons are powered by a 3000mAh battery , which, compared to the sub-3000mAh cells offered by a good number of its entry-level rivals, sounds more than passable to us (Explore the best big-battery smartphones here). It also delivers an appreciable AI face unlock feature for security in lieu of a conventional physical fingerprint reader.

Imaging-wise, although its 13-megapixel main camera is not that big of a pro, we find it satisfactory, at least by 2018 budget-class standards, especially with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and native low-light photo enhancement features tagging along. As for selfies, it offers an uninspired 5-megapixel front-facing camera .

The Redmi 6A's feature set also includes either 32GB or 16GB of native memory (depending on the model) that's accompanied by a respectable 256GB memory card support . It is rigged with two nano SIM card trays and it supports the VoLTE (voice over LTE networks) in-call audio technology, just like several other low-end alternatives from Xiaomi.

With colors like Blue and Gold topping off its pros and cons, the 2018 Redmi 6A winds up as a decent purchase for shoppers looking for a well-rounded entry-level smartphone.
