The 2018 Red Magic, also known as the Red Devil, is a Nubia-branded ZTE smartphone that tries to live up to its rather bold moniker by packing a gaming-focused mix of pros and cons and by attempting to join Phonerated's list of the fastest smartphones on the market -- we'll explore its hardware specs as we go along this technical review. Having said that, the Red Magic is no exception from being marred by a couple of setbacks, one of which is the fact that it settles for a mundane 8-megapixel front cam resolution 
, although selfie-snapping is not exactly a priority for gaming and multimedia smartphones like itself.
Its large 6-inch LTPS display, which sits on an 18:9 aspect ratio 
, despite reminding us of some flagship-class phablets, does not sound that magical, seeing that it sticks to a 1080p-only definition and scores a sub-VR-caliber 403ppi pixel density . In comparison, some of the best VR-ready phones around boast 1440p definitions and safely pass the 500ppi threshold. Its lack of a microSD card slot sounds like a problematic con as well, especially given its inclination towards gaming, although its 128GB memory (ZTE also ships a 64GB-only variant) does not sound too shabby.
On the flip side, the Red Magic's pros are headlined by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 dual-cluster eight-core engine whose single-core clock rate peaks at 2.45GHz , with its standard cluster speeds being 2.36GHz and 1.9GHz accordingly. Its engine is coupled with a colossal 8GB RAM that plugs the Red Magic into our list of gaming-ready 8GB-RAM smartphones. Also on board is an Adreno 540 graphics engine clocked at 653MHz.
Its aforementioned performance components work hand-in-hand with a respectable 3800mAh battery, wile a gaming-inspired exterior crowned with a multi-colored LED strip accentuates its gaming personality. It also features a dedicated button for gaming , which, when triggered, blocks incoming calls and notifications as well as improves the phone's performance.
