Alcatel A7 Review of Pros And Cons

Unveiled alongside the Idol 5, Idol 5s, and its A7 XL big brother, the Alcatel A7 is a mixture of mid-range and high-end pros and cons that likely falls into the pockets of users who are meticulous about battery life. We say this because it boasts a large 4000mAh battery , which outskirts even those of some fully-premium 2017 releases, at least in terms of raw capacity. Its heavy-duty personality is accentuated by a 22-hour maximum talk time and a whopping 62-hour music playback time , though its 480-minute video playback time is surprisingly lower than the 600-minute average as of this review. Nevertheless, its massive battery makes for one massive pro.

As for its other technical specs, the A7 rocks a 16-megapixel dual-tone-flash camera at the back, with a Full HD (1920 x 1080) video-recording capability at the ready. Sadly, its 8-megapixel selfie camera disappoints us with its fixed-focus limitation , which is not something you would want on a mid-range phone, especially since it came out in a time where higher-resolution autofocus-enabled selfie cams were all the rage. That being said, Alcatel did not forget to equip its front cam with a dedicated front-facing flash .

The A7 comes with a rather unambitious -- but not disappointing -- 5.5-inch Full HD screen. However, looking past its external pros and cons, we caught an auspicious (in this Android class) 1.5GHz eight-core processor paired up with 3GB of RAM . Moreover, it supports LTE Cat 6 bands, consequently reaching data rates of up to 300Mbps . In comparison, many of its middle-tier rivals settle for up to 150Mbps rates on LTE Cat 4 networks.

Storage-wise, the A7 banks on a passable 32GB internal memory extendable by a maximum of 128GB , with fingerprint user authentication and a Dirac-Research-enhanced audio system joining in as well. Additionally, it features Alcatel's App Cloner , basically letting users juggle two social media accounts on the device the same time.

Bottomline: Although it is only available in one color (Metal Black) , the Alcatel A7 is not a monochromatic 2017 Android in terms of technical features, it may even pique the interest of power-hungry users who also place high values on a phone's imaging and multitasking capabilities.
