BLU Bold N1 Review & Pros And Cons

- Analysis by KJ David

Kicking off BLU's Bold smartphone series, the 2019 Bold N1 features a few upscale pros here and there, but some of its cons are not that bold, consequently hurting its chances of joining Phonerated's list of the best smartphones available.

Starting off with its hardware specs, the 2.1GHz peak clock rate of its Mediatek Helio P70 engine is not quite on par with those of the fastest Android phones on the market as of this technical review -- we expected at least a 2.5GHz clock speed. Its 4GB accompanying RAM does not sound that promising either, but its CPU does come with an AI engine, mainly for photography.

Stamina-wise, its 3500mAh raw battery power won't be turning any heads, although it does come with an 18W wired quick-charging system and a 10W wireless charging capability , the former claiming to replenish up to 3 hours of talk time after a 10-minute charge.

As for the positive side of its array of pros and cons, the BLU Bold N1 features a spacious 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ (2340 x 1080) screen with a phablet-esque 19.5:9 aspect ratio , an all-screen design that translates to a high 92 percent screen-to-body ratio, and a damage-resistant Gorilla Glass 5 cover . It also comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner that sounds more high-tech versus the rear-mounted circular scanners offered by a few tantamount smartphones.

The N1's photography perks include an AI-powered 16- plus 5-megapixel double-lens camera whose biggest feature is its 96MP Super Zoom option. Also, it mirrors some full-blown selfie smartphones with its pop-up selfie camera, even though its 13-megapixel raw pixel resolution is nothing to call home about.

Adding to this Bold model's pros and cons is a 128GB native memory that can be expanded by up to 128GB and dual nano SIM card support. It runs on the Android 9.0 Pie ecosystem out of the box.

All said, the Bold N1 caters to users who want to dip their toes into high-end territory, but are not ready to go for a premium-class phone just yet.
