A major overhaul of the 2016 Cubot Max in terms of pros and cons, the Max 2 is one of Cubot's largest smartphones to date, touting multimedia-driven 6.8-inch 19:9 display with a damage-resistant Gorilla Glass 5 finish . Having said that, its spacious screen drops the ball when it comes to sharpness, settling for a ho-hum 1352 x 640 HD+ resolution and, consequently, scoring a paltry pixel density of only 220ppi -- the best phablets featured here on Phonerated do not go any lower than 1080p screen definitions and 400ppi pixel densities.
Probably because its expansive screen does not shoot for a flagship-caliber resolution, the Max 2 settles for a middling eight-core 2GHz Helio P22 processor that will not likely supplant any of the best octa-core smartphones on the market. It is accompanied by a so-so 4GB RAM and an IMG PowerVR GE8320 graphics engine. We also think that it could have done better than a 64GB internal memory , since some of its large-screen rivals are offered in 128GB variants.
Its cons aside, the Cubot Max 2 packs a massive 5000mAh battery promising a staggering 200-hour music playback time that was over 230 percent higher than the average value around the time of this on-paper review. Its pros also include a trendy (as of its release) Gradient color option that runs from Blue to Purple, although the brand also ships a Black variant for those who want to keep it simple.
Heading over to its imaging specs, this Cubot model's 8-megapixel fixed-focus selfie camera sounds meager, at least compared to those of the best selfie phones of its time.
On the other hand, it features a tolerable 12- plus 2-megapixel dual main camera rigged with a 6P lens, phase-detection autofocus, and a 1A LED flash. The Max 2 also delivers a twofold biometric security system comprising of a fingerprint scanner and a facial recognition system.
Crowning its pros and cons with the Android 9.0 Pie OS and a hybrid dual SIM card slot (The second slot may be used for a nano SIM or a microSD card), the Max 2 makes for a solid choice for shoppers who want a high-stamina smartphone with more screen real estate than most other models in the mid-end category.
