Manufactured by Alcatel, GreatCall's 2018 Jitterbug Smart2, with its assortment of pros and cons, joins Phonerated's list of senior-friendly phones. As a full-blown Android (It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box), however, its specs list has a long way to go before outstripping those of most other budget-class alternatives.

As expected out of a phone designed specifically for seniors, this sequel to the Jitterbug Smart runs on low-caliber hardware components, including a basic Mediatek 6738 quad-core processor running at 1.5GHz and no more than 2GB of RAM. Also, while its 16GB internal memory sounds rather sizable, insofar as the senior-focused Android category is concerned, it can only be expanded by up to 32GB . In comparison, some of its closest rivals support up to 128GB external memory cards.

As for its pros, this GreatCall Android delivers a direct line to 5Star emergency services through its one-touch emergency button . It is also preloaded with apps like Lively and GreatCall Link , which are dedicated to consolidating health services and keeping users connected to caregivers correspondingly. Moreover, it's easy to appreciate the Smart2's 3000mAh battery capacity , seeing that several of its contemporaries settle for more or less 2500mAh of power only -- it won't be joining the best big-battery phones any time soon, though, since the models on that list come with at least 4000mAh in the tank.

Its other pros and cons include a 13-megapixel rear camera that sounds appreciable, coming from a prepaid senior phone. By the way, don't forget to check out this list of other prepaid contenders. Up front, it has a 5-megapixel secondary camera that, although would normally end up as a con in our book, sounds like a bonus feature for a phone within this category.

The Jitterbug Smart2 sports a middling 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720) IPS display and it has an M4/T4 hearing aid rating. It also offers 4G LTE web connectivity alongside the VoLTE (Voice over LTE networks) technology promising to enhance the overall in-call audio quality.

As our technical review reveals, the GreatCall Jitterbug Smart2 winds up as a solid choice for aging users who prefer an Android with simplicity in mind.
