Huawei Y5 Lite Review & Pros And Cons

Not to be mixed up with model CAG-L23, a lower-specked phone that goes by the name Y5 Lite 2018 in some markets, the Huawei Y5 Lite (model DRA-LX5) is a starter-class Android Go smartphone with a few touches of modernity, which we'll discuss further down this technical Phonerated review of its pros and cons.

Its biggest flaws come from the hardware department, in the form of a primitive 1GB-only RAM count and a modest 1.5GHz quad-core Mediatek MT6739 processor , the latter obviously floundering in comparison to the engines powering most octa-core smartphones out there. Moreover, its lack of NFC support might sound quite off-putting to some users. Having said that, its unpromising performance is augmented by the Go Edition of the Android 8.1 Oreo platform , which is essentially a stripped-down version of the stock operating system consisting of less-process-hungry versions of Google applications alongside some storage and data optimizations.

The Y5 Lite's rather modern pros include the 18:9 aspect ratio of its 5.45-inch IPS display, which brings to mind some full-blown high-class phablets. Sadly, its screen still winds up as a con in our book, seeing that it sticks to a 1440 x 720 HD+ resolution and offers a pixel density count of only 295ppi .

As for its selling points, the Y5 Lite is powered by a 3020mAh battery that sounds just about right, given its introductory-class feature set. Its 16GB native memory, which can be expanded by up to 256GB , is an appreciable pro as well, at least within the budget-class Android category.

This Y5 edition touts a tolerable 8-megapixel f/2.0 main camera with phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) and a standard LED flash. On the opposite end, it has a 5-megapixel fixed-focus selfie camera aided by what Huawei calls a selfie-toning flash.

So, as revealed by our analysis of its pros and cons, the Huawei Y5 Lite is a lightly-specked Android Go smartphone tailored to first-time smartphone users looking for a somewhat well-rounded budget Android.

On-paper Star rating:

Let's Look at the Cons:

Unknown SAR rating:

We didn't find SAR (radiation level) information for this phone.

Slower smartphone:

Not too long ago, this smartphone's processing specs would have seemed ok, but in comparison to most recent smartphones, this 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6739 processor with just 1GB of RAM looks a little pale.

Unknown weight:

It's disappointing that we could not find its weight information.

And Now, the Pros:

Quad microprocessor:

Not only does it have a 1.5GHz processor clock speed, but it also has 4 cores.

Very large display:

We're dealing with a hefty display here, making it a phablet: 5.45 inches and a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels means about 11.88 square inches and an image quality of at least 295 dots per inch (DPI)!

High-resolution (8-megapixel) camera:

It includes a high-resolution built-in camera (8-megapixel)

Decent-resolution selfie cam:

The selfie cam resolution seems just about average.
