Samsung Galaxy S II Plus Review & Pros And Cons

Picture of the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus, by Samsung

We expected some major pluses with this update to the Galaxy S II, but we are somewhat disappointed not to find that many upgraded features. And on some features, even a downgrade! A newer version of the Android OS and a bigger memory expansion are two of the most noticeable improvements. The CPU is still the same, however, and the 8GB storage memory is smaller than the original.

On-paper Star rating:

First, the Cons:

Apparently no HDMI port:

It's all well and good that the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus can record high-resolution 1920 x 1080 movies, but we were disappointed not to find any evidence of the Galaxy S II Plus featuring an HDMI port (which is convenient to watch HD videos on your shiny HDTV.)

Sub-standard front cam:

By today's standards, we demand more than only 2-megapixel of selfie camera resolution.

Unknown weight:

It's disappointing that we could not find its weight information.

And Now, the Pros:

Swype:

The Samsung Galaxy S II Plus features the Swype text entry system. Swype lets you enter text simply by gliding the keyboard with your finger over the right characters.

Large onboard memory:

It includes lots of user memory (8000MB), but it may sometimes be better to buy a phone with an included memory card instead, since the memory card can then be reused in a future cell phone.

High-definition (8-megapixel) camera:

It includes a high-resolution built-in camera (8-megapixel) with the following options: Buddy Photo Share, Group Facetag, Face Zoom, LED Flash, Zero-lag shutter speed.

Other notable features:

It has these special features: Accelerometer, NFC, Wi-Fi Direct
