Debuting alongside its XA2 Ultra big brother and the mid-range Xperia L2, the Sony Xperia XA2 is a 2018 flagship that focuses on imaging more than anything else. That said, its high-end cameras are accompanied by a couple of questionable cons, which our prying eye for specs easily caught.
For starters, it sticks to a middle-class 5.2-inch FHD-1080p display 
, despite an ultra-high-end QHD-1440p definition sounding like a better match for its sophisticated camera, which we'll get to in a bit. Additionally, it passes up on a 4000mAh raw power capacity , packing a 3300mAh cell instead, but it does try to make up for this setback through battery features like Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Smart Stamina, and Qnovo Adaptive Charging 
, the latter promising to prevent battery decline over time.
As for its key pros, the Xperia XA2 boasts a high-resolution 23-megapixel primary camera decorated with equally-high-end imaging perks like 4K (3840 x 2160) video-recording and Hybrid Autofocus . This facet likely puts it alongside the best camera smartphones as of this technical review. Additionally, despite having a middling 8-megapixel-only resolution , its front-facing camera looks to win over selfie addicts with its wider-than-usual 120-degree angle -- a lot of other high-tier selfie phones settle for 84-degree-angle selfie shooters.
Aside from joining the high-end imaging race, the XA2 also hops on the octa-core bandwagon, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 eight-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz , with a respectable 3GB RAM tagging along. For storage, it does not go beyond 32GB of internal memory , which we think could have been bumped up to 64GB or even 128GB, though there's not much room to protest, since it supports a generous 256GB's worth of top-up storage .
Also part of the XA2's pros and cons are Sony's signature audio technologies , such as Clear Audio+ and SmartAmplifier, both dedicated to fine-tuning the phone's overall audio quality, probably making it a better fit for audiophiles versus several high-end alternatives. It also comes with a standard fingerprint reader and a Corning Gorilla Glass panel covering its display.
With the Android 8.0 Oreo ecosystem rounding out its pros and cons, Sony's Xperia XA2 is bound for high-class smartphone shoppers who place a very high value on multimedia.
