Initially released in India alongside its Evolve X sibling, the BlackBerry Evolve bedecks its signature BB pedigree with some middle-class pros and cons. Some of its poorly-evolved specs include its low-key Snapdragon 450 eight-core 1.8GHz processor , especially since a lot of tantamount eight-core models listed here on Phonerated safely pass the 2GHz CPU clock rate threshold. Its 4GB LPDDR4X RAM and 650MHz Adreno 506 graphics processor sound respectable, though.
Its slight cons also include a 64GB-only internal memory capacity , if only because some of its BlackBerry cousins offer twice as much in-built storage, although it does come with support for up to 256GB of external space. Adding to its hardware components is a hearty 4000mAh battery promising a 24-hour maximum talk time and up to 45 hours of continuous audio playback.
As for its BlackBerry-branded features, the Evolve comes preloaded with the DTEK security suite that monitors the phone's overall security and recommends appropriate safety features. It also delivers BB Hub, which consolidates the user's communication lines (Facebook, Email, etc.) in one place.
Its other pros include a dual 13-megapixel rear camera clubbed with a dual-LED flash, which was probably inspired by the cameras offered by some of the best photography-first phones of its time. Moreover, its 16-megapixel selfie cam , which carries the phone's facial recognition system, likely holds its own versus the frontal cameras rocked by some popular phones for selfies.
The Evolve is equipped with a 6-inch (5.99-inch, to be exact) LTPS display sitting on a wide 18:9 aspect ratio and coming with a 2160 x 1080 FHD+ definition, which sounds passable, at least as of this technical review. Its pros and cons also include a scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 5 screen cover , an aluminum frame, and a textured backing, with a classic Black finish tying everything together.
All-in-all, the 2018 Evolve is not that highly-evolved of a BB smartphone, but it nonetheless caters to those in search of a security- and photography-driven Android.
On-paper Star rating:
The speed of its Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 microprocessor (1.8GHz) with 8 cores is among the fastest in the current market.

We're dealing with a hefty display here, making it a phablet: 6 (actual diagonal is 5.99 inches) inches and a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels means about 14.39 square inches and an image quality of at least 403 dots per inch (DPI)!
The BlackBerry Evolve doesn't come with an included memory card but it has a slot for up to 256GB of memory expansion, which will be convenient to save videos and pictures shot with the included Dual 13-megapixel camera.
It includes a high-megapixel camera (Dual 13-megapixel) with the following options: Burst, Panorama, RGB + MONO (low-light enhancement and Bokeh Mode).
The 16-megapixel selfie cam offers an above-average resolution.
If cell phone radiation is a concern, we would like you to know that the BlackBerry Evolve has a somewhat higher-than-average SAR rating (1.087 w/kg). It ain't necessarily too high (there are many higher-SAR phones) but, at the same time, it's not really one of the lowest figures.

It is all very well that the BlackBerry Evolve can record fancy 1920 x 1080 videos, but we're surprised we didn't find any sign of the Evolve sporting an HDMI port (which comes in handy to watch HD videos on your shiny HDTV without having to move them first to your computer).
