Compare The iPhone 6S vs iPhone 6s Plus

Comparing the iPhone SE to the 6s or 6s Plus is, from the get go, a perilous enterprise. Obviously, the SE is the mini version of Apple's flagship models and comes with mini specs. But the SE survives the comparison on more than one aspect, from its screen DPI of 326 (same as that of the 6s) to its equivalent 64-bit processor. Let's see how it goes:

Display

Display size remains the main differentiator between all three iPhones, but display fineness does not seem to be an issue, since they all yield at least a retina display (326DPI), though the iPhone SE, the smallest of all, suffers from quite a low resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels (compare that to 1920 x 1080 for the iPhone 6S Plus), but we are looking at a display that is almost twice the size: 12.93 square inches compared to 6.82 for the SE (See our graph)...

Physical Features

Clearly, the iPhone SE wins the form-factor comparison big time with its pocket-friendly dimensions. As illustrated by our histogram, its weight of 3.99oz (113g) is almost half of the 6.77 ounces (192g) of the 6s Plus, but its thickness is a tad more: 7.6mm versus 7.3 for the 6s Plus and 7.1mm for the 6s, though all three smartphones belong to the thin sub-category.

Battery Life

The 6S has a bigger battery than the SE, but not that much bigger. Compared to its display ratio (4.7 inches are 17.5% more than four inches), the 6S' 1715mAh battery is only a meager 4% bigger than the 1642mAh battery carried by the SE. That explains why, even if it is bigger and more expensive, the iPhone 6S offers only 11 hours of wi-fi browsing time, compared to 13 hours for the SE. Understandably because of the size of its 5.5-inch screen and despite its bigger 2915mAh power pack, the 6S Plus stands in the middle, with 12 hours.

iPhone 6S vs iPhone 6s Plus: Our Conclusion

Based on our comparison, we think the following choices could make sense:

  • Get the iPhone SE if you like smaller smartphones and want iPhone bragging rights. You'll get just about the same experience (but that 1.2-megapixel facetime cam clashes with the other models' 5MP one), in a pocket-friendly form factor.
  • Choose the iPhone 6s Plus strictly as a phablet, keeping in mind it won't be as easy to carry around.
  • Compared to the SE, the iPhone 6S, with its 4.7-inch display, remains the best choice for Apple lovers who want a higher memory (up to 128GB versus only 64 for the SE) and a few extra perks, but keep in mind the battery is just about the same (1715mAh compared to 1642, but for a bigger screen...), yielding slightly-lower usage times and making the iPhone SE a suprisingly-comparable mini version.
